While the NHL season is still in the not so distant future, the Wild poise themselves to have a roster with a bunch of young talent. With the signing of Mikael Granlund, the Minnesota Wild have locked up all their prospects for the coming years. While some consider Granlund to be the or one of the top prospects currently playing outside the NHL, it is certain he will be on the Wild’s roster when the season opens signing the rookie max entry level contract for three-years and $2.7 million. The Wild have quietly loaded up their farm system as well holding three of the top 30 prospects according to www.hockeysfuture.com with Granlund, RW Charlie Coyle and D Jonas Brodin. Look for prospects RW Brett Bulmer, LW Jason Zucker, LW Johan Larsson and C Zack Phillips to also battle for roster spots on this years team. We also could see Goaltender Matt Hackett as well.
With a good mix of veterans and the Wild’s young talent don’t look for a spot in the NHL finals but a spot in next years playoffs isn’t out of the question especially with rumors of the Wild possibly bidding on Minnesota native and former player at Shattuck-St. Mary’s and UND star, LW Zack Parise.
The future is definitely bright for the Wild. It’s just a matter of time and discipline to see how it all develops.
